YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Freeway ft. Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel – “What We Do”

WhatwedovidBecause of the Roc-A-Fella Records history, the label will always be discussed, even close to ten years after its demise. In 2003, it was the beginning of the end, as Jay-Z was making plans to retire. This also was when Beanie Sigel gave State Property a real shot, starting with Freeway.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Roc-A-Fella Records began signing many artists from Philadelphia. Many of these artists ended up being on the State Property division, headed by Beanie Sigel. After the Roc split, these artists continued working as State Property in Philadelphia.

Freeway made his debut in 2003, releasing Philadelphia Freeway and he released the single, “What We Do,” featuring Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel. The song reflected on their hustling past, but even then Jay-Z had ownership in the Nets, but it was nothing compared to his business moves in the 2010s. As history is being made, we decided to reflect on these days of Roc-A-Fella by making “What We Do” the Wednesday Throwback.
