First off, it’s good news to see an icon trend on Twitter and be alive to see and enjoy it. This morning, Al Green was the top trending topic in celebration of his birthday. Happy 70th birthday, Mr. Green, and thanks for the classic music.

In 1972, Al Green saw his career reach new heights, as he released his album, Let’s Stay Together, an undeniable classic. One of the songs off the album was “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart.” This song was never treated as a single, but it remains a fan favorite.

Al Green’s birthday being on a Wednesday provided a rare opportunity for Hip Hop Vibe to admire music greatness. This week, the Wednesday Throwback is “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart.” Of course, this was just before the music video era, but he did perform the song on “Soul!” when he was on top of the world in 1972.
