In 2013, Troy Ave put New York City on his back, and said he was “restoring the feeling.” With that, he released New York City: The Album, which was his debut album. An independent artist, Troy Ave always boasted about the earnings he gets from his albums, when most people laughed about his record sales. From 2013 until 2017, Troy Ave had a dominating run, on the independent level.
A prison stint changed Troy Ave and his career hasn’t gotten on track since his release. This past year has seen him release music, but not have the same luster. During previous eras of hip hop, people would say his time has passed. However, rappers are staging huge comebacks, of all kinds, in this era. That means nobody’s time is up until they quit.
Troy Ave is back to releasing music how he did from 2013 through 2017. A free man, he is living his life to the fullest and leaving nothing for granted. Recently, he returned with his single, “Playing Games,” and dropped the music video last week. The visuals have been out for a few days, but haven’t drawn many views, thus far.
