Last night, the Los Angeles Lakers visited the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors have had an interesting franchise history. One of the NBA’s newest franchises, the Raptors entered the league as a part of the Canadian expansion. For most of their existence, the Raptors have been the sole team representing the nation of Canada. Early in their history, Toronto landed two franchise players in Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter.

Later years saw the Raptors also boast Chris Bosh as a franchise player. Before the end of Bosh’s tenure, the Raptors drafted DeMar DeRozan, who became the franchise player. Unlike all of the others, DeMar DeRozan stayed in Toronto. When Kyle Lowry joined the team, he and DeMar DeRozan formed a duo that turned the Raptors into title contenders. However, LeBron James was the one challenge they couldn’t overcome. That situation led to DeMar DeRozan being traded a year before the Raptors won the title.

Post-championship the Raptors have remained a competitive team. After a slow start, the Raptors have seemingly locked in a playoff spot. Last night, they hosted the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Raptor fans got in on the jokes. The Lakers have struggled all season and Russell Westbrook has taken much of the blame. Early in the game, Russell Westbrook threw a pass intended for one of his teammates, but it went into the stands. This led to the Raptors’ crowd mocking Westbrook.
