Much has been said about the Midwest hip hop scene. Due to efforts from Big Sean and others, Detroit is back. Meanwhile, Kanye West, Chief Keef, and Lupe Fiasco have Chicago firing on all cylinders. There is another Midwestern city making noise in the rap game, however, Flint, Michigan.
Jon Connor introduced the masses to Flint, but the city has much more going for itself than just him. Another Flint artist making a major impact on the game is Jhyce Luvvit. Putting on for the women in the rap game, Jhyce Luvvit is making a major impact on the game. The mixtape scene is getting hot and she is to blame.
Jhyce Luvvit has caught the attention of many major players in the game. Initially, Hip Hop Vibe intended to feature Jhyce Luvvit on New Year’s Day. However, technical difficulties delayed the latest On the Rise artist. More than a beautiful face and tempting body, Jhyce is also one of hip hop’s up-and-coming lyricists.

What is it like to come out of a somewhat unknown hip hop city, as opposed to a Chicago or a Detroit? Coming out as someone from an unknown hip hop city makes me have to work twice as hard to be successful. I’m thankful to come from where I do, because it makes me so much stronger and driven than the average artist.
How would you compare the Midwest hip hop scene to other hip hop scenes, what makes the Midwest stand out? I feel that the Midwest hip hop scene is much different than others. Just like the East, West Coast and down South, all have a certain sound, the midwest does as well. I think that what makes the Midwest stand out is the music that we make and the production is different. We definitely have developed our own sound.
When did you gain the “Queen of the Midwest” title and what led to you earning this? I honestly gave myself the “Queen of the Midwest” title because I felt that I could. Until someone comes and take it from me, it’s mine. I feel that I work very hard and I am going to be one of the females to represent the Midwest and keep us relevant in the industry. I have also done many female rap competitions and I have never lost. It’s all about the work to me. I respect the other female artist doing it but I am claiming the title most definitely.
Why do you feel the female emcees have enjoyed such a strong resurgence over the past two years? I respect the females that have been joining the industry in the last few years, I can’t help but to. The game is already crazy and it’s twice as hard for a female, so any female that has the talent, confidence, and drive to step into this game, I salute.
As an artist, how important do you feel it is to have the support of the DJs? As an artist, I feel that it is most important to have the support of the DJ’s. The fans and the DJ can make you.
Who are some of the DJs who have been holding you down? Some DJs that have supported me so far are DJ Tay Don’t Play, DJ Substance, DJ C-nice, DJ Updoe, DJ Jaybig, DJ PC, DJ Outcold, some Motor City DJS, Nerve DJS, Core DJS, and more I’m so thankful for them.
Why did you choose the name you chose for your new mixtape, I Am Michigana? I chose the I Am Michigana title because I am here to do what I do best and represent where I come from, so that’s what I am going to do. I was born and raised in Flint, MI and I want the world to know what it’s like.
Already a mixtape queen, what do you have in store for the next couple of months? The next couple of months, I will be dropping mixtapes back to back. I also have a few singles lined up to be released and I’ve been working with some industry artists. I have some very good things lined up for my supporters and fans.
What is the inspiration behind the music you make? The inspiration behind my music is my everyday experiences as well as my peers. Where I come from also gives me inspiration and motivation to make it out.
