On The Rise: Colby Bright

Independent rappers come a dime a dozen, especially during the day and age of social media. However, there are some artists out here who are really making moves on an independent level. Out there doing his thing on that level is Colby Bright, a leading indie artist.

Colby Bright has worked with a great number of major and independent artists. One of his more recent collaborators was with Layzie Bone, of the legendary Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Regardless, Colby Bright is doing what it takes for an independent artist to become known.

Recently, Colby Bright shared his expertise about navigating the game as an independent artist. He sat down for the On The Rise segment here on Hip Hop Vibe. During the interview, he discussed his work with DJ Infamous, Layzie Bone, and much more.

Read the entire interview below:

How are you Colby can you let everyone know how you teamed up with DJ Infamous for your Victory Lap mixtape? My team and I, 1Krown and I loved what he had going on and thought he’d be a great fit for the project. We had a previous business relationship so we just reached out and made it happen.

I loved the way he did it and I’m proud to say he will also be hosting the follow up to that project, Victory Lap 2.0. Dropping next month.

You don’t have the average sound you hear everywhere nowadays. What inspires your unique lyrical sound? Thanks man, I really pride myself on that. And to be completely honest, I rap from the heart and just want to be that spokesperson for the Underdogs and Have-Nots to be truth that dreams come true. That “Nothing To Something” attitude has always been my motivation for everything.

Can you tell us more about you Interscope deal and how that came about? Yeah, I actually had a distribution deal through Interscope Records & management Ari Admani & Co. It was an amazing experience…they flew us out to NYC where we got to record with the legendary Rsonist at the Iconic Diamond District Studios. Then shot the video all over Times Square for a song called, “We On Now”, which can be found on VEVO, Worldstar, MTV & More. Huge shout out to Ari Admani & Co, J. Littles, Rsonist, BonaFide Beatz & everybody else involved. Definitely 1 of the best experiences of my life.

So you left Interscope in 2012, and partnered with 1 Krown Entertainment what motivated you to go out and do things your own way? Well I just really have always this vision and it was just time to take it back, start from scratch & just build. Over the years with the connections, experiences & team that we had put together, it just made sense & I could always see the bigger picture. 1 of the best decisions I’ve ever made & I’m so excited for the future. It’s 1 Krown for life.

You are partnered with Top Mics one of the nation’s top touring companies. Who are some of your favorite artists you have worked with so far? Yeah, we actually discussed partnering up with TopMics for a little while, but eventually we both decided mutually that it was in both of our best interests to go separate ways before we actually got everything off of the ground. So unfortunately, we never got the chance to work together as initially planned. Big shout out to TopMics though.

But, as far as artists, we’ve worked with artists all over the country, but I’d probably have to say “Worldwide Hustla” with Layzie Bone. We reached out to Layzie personally and he was with it so we just made it happen. Such an honor to get to work with someone so iconic who you grew up Idolizing & not to mention, getting to do the production In House with my producer, BonaFide Beatz, it was just an all around, awesome experience. I’ll always love that song, it’ll never get old to me.

It was great speaking with you, can you please let the viewers know where they can find you on social media? My pleasure, thanks for having us.
