Marcus Smart finally took over as the Celtics’ starting point guard. Despite Marcus Smart’s small stature, he also serves as the Boston Celtics’ enforcer. Until last year, Marcus Smart had to play behind the likes of Kyrie Irving, Terry Rozier, and Kemba Walker. Now, Marcus Smart is the man running the show, and the Boston Celtics are in the Eastern Conference Finals. This is as far as the other point guards got the Celtics.
Marcus Smart put himself on the map in the 2017 and 2018 Eastern Conference Finals. Both seasons saw the Boston Celtics play the Cleveland Cavaliers. Marcus Smart took it upon himself to take LeBron James on. While Marcus Smart barely slowed LeBron James down, he made things a little more difficult for him. A constant pest to LeBron James, Marcus Smart got into several altercations with him. When LeBron left for Los Angeles, the Celtics did not seize the moment.
Marcus Smart’s Celtics took a step back, losing to the Bucks in 2019. Then, in 2020, the Celtics lost to the Miami Heat. Last season, the Celtics were swept by the Nets. This year, the Celtics have returned a sweep to the Nets, and dethroned the Milwaukee Bucks. Now, they are facing the other team who eliminated them, the Miami Heat. After three games, the Heat proved they can beat Boston, again. Meanwhile, Marcus Smart briefly went down with a tough injury.
