LeBron James walks off in frustration as Lakers give up early

Sixteen years ago, the Los Angeles Lakers played a home game against the Toronto Raptors. Much like last night, the Lakers were getting blown out by the Raptors. That night, Kobe Bryant was playing and he scored 81 points. In that game, Kobe did the impossible, turning a Lakers’ blowout loss into a Lakers’ blowout win. They went from being down by 20 points to winning by 18 points.

Nowadays, LeBron James is the man in LA, but people are questioning for how much longer. James is in the final year of the four year contract he signed in 2018. In four years, LeBron James has only led the Lakers to the playoffs twice. Despite the first Laker playoff run in seven years resulting in a championship, the fans have been highly disappointed.

Last season, the Lakers got off to a 22-7 start, before injuries slowed them down. With last season being a 72 game shortened season, the Lakers were on pace to go 55-17, which is the equivalent of 62-20. The injuries put them in the play-in and the Lakers overhauled the roster. Given how well last year’s role players are doing for other teams, maybe they should have kept them on.

Playing the Raptors, last night, the Lakers were hammered early and often. LeBron James was visible in his frustration, early in the first quarter, as he walked off. The Lakers played decently the rest of the way and the loss was by a respectable margin.
