Coming into this season, the Los Angeles Lakers were expected to return to title contention. Instead, this has been an incredibly tough season. The Lakers held a playoff spot during the first part of the season. A month ago, they fell into the play-in. Earlier this week, the Pelicans took their play-in spot. As the Lakers keep losing, the Spurs are now coming for the final play-in spot. Last night, the Lakers did nothing to help their case.
LeBron James had a big game against the Pelicans. During that game, LeBron James injured his ankle, and now he’s missing more time. At one point, the Lakers led the Pelicans by 26 points. As LeBron James went down to injury, the Lakers blew that lead. The Pelicans now lead the Lakers in the standings. Most NBA critics have now said the Lakers’ season is over. A team with championship ambitions competing in the play-in is disheartening.
Last night, the Lakers were playing the Dallas Mavericks on the road. Kent Bazemore was on Luka Doncic and he tried to defend him. Instead, Luka Doncic broke Bazemore’s ankles twice. After that, Kent Bazemore tried to hit a buzzer beater to end the third quarter. Already, the Lakers were far from getting back into the game. The TNT cameras caught LeBron James sitting in a corner laughing so hard until he was crying.
