LaMelo Ball curses at Joel Embiid for hitting him after the foul call
Nearly five years ago, the Charlotte Hornets were in the midst of a losing streak. The 2016-2017 season was the first one, in a long time, where fans had expectations for Charlotte. Early that season, they had their moments, but things fell apart. Ahead of their January 13 game against the, then league-worst Philadelphia 76ers, Nic Batum guaranteed a Hornets victory. They lost.
Earlier in the season, the Hornets already took a loss to the Sixers, which disappointed fans. On Reddit, the upset fans called them the “Charlotte Bees,” out of frustration. But, what the Hornets’ fans didn’t realize was that their team was already in the middle of what would be a 17-game losing streak against the Sixers.
While the Hornets continued in mediocrity, the Sixers became a perennial 50-win team. Another rebuild saw the Hornets build a core consisting of LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, and Miles Bridges. Rounded out with Gordon Hayward, the Hornets are finally rising. Four years in, the Sixers are a playoff disappointment, and their former number one draft pick, Ben Simmons, is refusing to play for the team.
Last night, the Hornets finally beat the Sixers, which was the first time they did so since 2016. During the win, which wasn’t necessarily close, LaMelo Ball went up for his signature floater, when a foul was called. Still in the air, Joel Embiid still decided to hit him. Never one to back down, Ball told Embiid that was some “low a** sh*t.”
