John Witherspoon is one of the most ionic actors of all-time and is known for his roles in the ‘Friday‘ movie series, ‘Soul Plane,‘ ‘The Wayans Bros,’ ‘The Boondocks‘ and even the ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ series. Rumors speculated shortly after October 30 arrived that he passed away. Many thought about the legendary broadcaster, John Witherspoon, but he passed away in 2017.
Regina King tweeted about Witherspoon passing and that had Twitter in a frenzy as well. In a statement to Deadline though, Witherspoon’s family is now confirming his passing at the age of 77. They say he died suddenly at his home. His family also released a statement on his Twitter handle.
“It is with deepest sorrow that we can confirm our beloved husband and father, John Witherspoon, one of the hardest working men in show business, died today at his home in Sherman Oaks at the age of 77. “He is survived by his wife Angela, and his sons JD, Alexander, and a large family. We are all in shock, please give us a minute for a moment in privacy and we will celebrate his life and his work together. John used to say ‘I’m no big deal’, but he was huge deal to us.”
Witherspoon continued to do standup comedy leading up to his death. He was also supposed to be in the final Friday movie which was set to be titled ‘Last Friday.’ Recent television shows he work on was 2017’s ‘White Famous‘ and this year’s ‘The Jellies.’ The world lost a legend. Prayers and condolences go out to his friends and family.
