Hip Hop Vibe’s Comeback of the Year: Nas

Nas 4By Hardcore Critic
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

What fans expected to happen in 2011 wound up taking place in 2012. However, when Nas began talk of releasing Life is Good, it went in one ear and out the other for most. But, Nas made good on his promise and released “The Don,” which Heavy D co-produced.

Nas made it clear he was serious when he released “Daughters.” With Destiny Jones, his eldest child, acting out, Nas went about a different way to discipline her. Instead of punishing her by taking something away, Nas made a song about it. When the music video was released, most fathers’ hearts were touched.

Each song Nas put out turned out to be full of knowledge, but he did not limit himself to just his music. Before Nas even spoke on Life is Good, he appeared on Tyga’s Careless World debut. Previously, Nas rarely did collaborations. Using his daughter to see who was hot, currently, Nas jumped on records with Rick Ross, who appeared on Life is Good, the Maybach Music compilation, Self Made 2, and Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, appearing in the “By My Side” video.

Chris Brown also recruited Nas for his Fortune album. In the middle of the summer, Nas released Life is Good, which debuted on top of the charts. Right when Nas was beginning to be overlooked by the masses, he returned with another single. Featuring Amy Winehouse posthumously, Nas released “Cherry Wine” as the next single and released the critically-acclaimed music video for it. The year of 2012 was full of comebacks, but no one was able to do it quite like Nas, earning him Comeback of the Year status with Hip Hop Vibe.
