Last week, Lil Baby was trending, after he flashed what was supposed to be a rare $400,000 40th anniversary Patek Philippe watch. It turns out that this time piece was simply a replica. The Atlanta rapper soon blasted the jeweler Gabriel Jacobs, of Rafaello & Co., on Instagram, after finding out about the luxury watch’s lack of authenticity.
Now, Jacobs has spoken with TMZ, about this crazy situation. He is emphasizing that he would never do this to any client, whether they’re just as famous as Lil Baby, or not. He also plans to hire a “professional watch authenticator,” in order to prevent incidents like this, from happening again.
“Even this morning, one of the dealers comes to me and says, ‘Gabe… I was going to buy it from you. I couldn’t even tell,'” said Jacobs, regarding another client who was interested in that Patek Philippe watch.
“Even if he wasn’t the hardest artist. Even if he was just whatever, what do I gain by that? Like, that’s what I want the public and people to understand,” added Jacobs, when asked about Baby. “For $400,000 or $300,000, why would I ruin my reputation?”
Jacobs went on to say that he gave Baby $3 million worth of jewelery, to use at the Met Gala, as well. At this point, it’ll definitely be interesting to see if Baby would give Jacobs another chance, at selling him more jewelry.
