Next year is 2015, welcome to the future people. Welcome to 2014, however, this year makes it evident just how long ago the 1990s were. A decade loved by most, a lot of classic music came and some songs will live on forever because of the impact they had.
The year of 1995 was a pivotal year in hip hop and urban music, as it was Montell Jordan’s breakout year. Back in 1995, Montell Jordan signed to Def Jam and released his This Is How We Do It album. “This Is How We Do It” was the title track and the lead single, which sampled Slick Rick’s “Children’s Story.”
Seeing just how far into the future the world has made it, on the first Wednesday Throwback of the year, it made sense to reflect here. After all, the 1990s was the era of the future then. In a couple of decades, people will be looking back on this moment as a defining moment of whatever era they will classify it as.
