DJ YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Big L – “Put it On”

Big LBy DJ YRS Jerzy

See, the real reason the Wednesday Throwback was even started was to publicize tracks like this. No disrespect to the legends, but it feels like everybody is always doing stuff on the late great Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z. Back in the 1990s, though, Big L was expected to be a bigger artist than both of them.

Harlem’s original hip hop leader was Big L and his street buzz led to him signing a deal with Columbia Records. In 1995, Big L dropped his debut album, Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous. This album falls into the golden era category of classic debut albums released in the 1990s.

“Put it On” was the lead single off Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous. The single was released late in 1994 and is regarded as a hood classic. So, to Harlem and to the rest of the world and Big L fans worldwide, let’s take it back to 1995 with “Put it On,” produced by Buckwild.

Rest in peace to the legend Big L, May 30, 1974 – February 15, 1999.
