Arguably the biggest breakout star of 2013 is Iamsu! and his hard work over the past few years spilled over into this year. The success of Iamsu! is great for the Bay Area, specifically the city of Oakland. This week, Hip Hop Vibe is paying homage to one of hip hop’s greatest cities, which is Oakland, so a mention of Iamsu! is only right.
Oakland is in the midst of a strong comeback and Iamsu! is a major reason for this, due to his movement, Heartbreak Gang. Other members in his crew making noise include Kool John and they have songs with such names as Juvenile. Iamsu! has had a strong year, dropping Million Dollar Afro with Problem and Kilt II this summer.
Co-signed by E-40, Iamsu! is a bit different from the other artists in the game. Iamsu! is working hard and has introduced himself with such projects as his Two Eleven documentary. The Oakland rapper also has such songs as “100 Grand” and “Goin Up” under his belt.
Iamsu! is the clear leader of this “New Oakland” scene and he is carrying the torch for the city in 2013.
