Breeding Ground, the Carolinas: Mr. 704

By Hardcore Critic

Comparisons have been made between Atlanta and Charlotte, as both cities appear to be prime destinations for young, urban, professionals. While both cities are what some would describe as “hip hop friendly,” the hip hop scene in Charlotte lacks the development of Atlanta. In many Southern cities, the rappers go to Atlanta to build their popularity.

Charlotte is at the heart of the Carolinas, comfortably placed on the border of North and South Carolina and the Carowinds amusement park is actually in both states. One of the largest cities in the South, the hip hop scene in Charlotte is finally taking form. With names such as Mr. 704, who wears the city on his name, Charlotte should soon be in the mainstream.

Mr. 704 is one of the most-respected figures in trap music. Releasing a flurry of mixtapes, Mr. 704 has worked with the likes of DJ HeadBussa and Memphis Bleek, among other names. Rocko, one of his trap counterparts, has also worked with Mr. 704. One of the biggest artists in the Carolinas, it does appear as if Mr. 704 will be among the first artists to break into the mainstream.
