In Burlington, North Carolina, Cooper and her friends were protesting, in a public parking lot, when the police asked them to leave. One of Cooper's friends, a black man, was handcuffed by police, cooperating by walking with them, when one officer tripped him to the ground, and the others began to beat him on the parking lot pavement, while one cop tried to block Cooper from filming.
