Because of the several delays and the emergence of other rappers, many counted Young Jeezy out. While waiting to release Thug Motivation 103, Young Jeezy began feuding with Rick Ross. Both signed to Def Jam, the rappers had been friends, making appearances on each other’s albums. In 2009, Rick Ross emerged as one of rap’s central figures, following his feud with 50 Cent. By 2010, Rick Ross was considered one of the most-popular rappers from the South, making music for the streets.
Young Jeezy had built his name off street anthems. However, the delays in his album left Young Jeezy away from the fans. During his absence, Rick Ross also began releasing “trap music.” While continuing to downplay the beef with Ross, things grew very tense with the two rappers. Considered Def Jam’s biggest artist, Rick Ross originally prepared to release his album on December 13. In the days leading up to the album, Ross said he may be the reason Young Jeezy could not get a solid release date.
However, Rick Ross’ seizures led to his album being pushed back until 2012, while Young Jeezy was given a solid December 20 release date. With his “I Do” and “F.A.M.E.” singles buzzing, Young Jeezy easily recaptured his fan base. Recently, Young Jeezy sat down with The Source and discussed both his album and his documentary, which showed fans a different side of the popular rapper.
