As much as things change, they remain the same. The West Coast hip hop scene is back on the map, with Los Angeles jumping back into the forefront. Now, there are backpack rappers, represented by Kendrick Lamar, alternative rappers, represented by Tyler, the Creator, and there is even trap music, through Ice Burgandy.
But, YG represents the traditional gangsta rap Los Angeles is known for. Los Angeles’ new hip hop scene, dubbed the “New West,” has a mutual respect. There are several types of rappers from the area emerging. But, the focus was entirely on YG when he released his Just Re’d Up 2 mixtape with DJ Mustard and DJ Ill Will.
Back on the West Coast, YG talked to DJ Skee. Currently, the main topic of discussion out West is his Just Re’d Up 2 mixtape. YG explained why he has so many tracks on the mixtape and the impact he has been having on the game. DJ Skee talked to YG about several other topics, as he is one of Def Jam’s newer artists.
