Ye season must be coming soon! Remember Kanye West’s self-produced banger “Through The Wire” that was released back in September of 2003? You know the one where he first showcased his lyrical skill set all while his mouth was wired shut from a life threatening car accident in California? Yes, that one! Well The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has officially Certified the song platinum after 15 years!

The hot record was recorded in October 2002 and was his debut single featured on his debut album, The College Dropout.” The title was inspired by the “Yhandi” emcee spitting his lyrics through his wired jaw after it was fractured in three places as a result of the accident. Throughout the song Ye reminisces and details the horrific moment and recovery process over Chaka Khan’s 1985 “Through The Wire” ballad.

The Coodie and Chike-directed video provides a descriptive visual of the storyline. Providing Polaroid snapshots of ’Ye in the studio working on the record with his bloated and bruised face, consuming all his nutrients from a liquid diet through a straw following his car accident. Giving fans a true inside look of the accident and who Kanye was as a rapper.

On November 20th, 2018 it has officially sold over 1 million copies. Following its initial status of Gold when “Through The Wire” had 500,000 copies sold back in March of 2014.
