For whatever reason, a lot of rappers wanted to change their names to begin 2012. Among them was Mos Def, who wanted to now be known as Yasiin Bey. Long story short, five years later, Yasiin Bey doesn’t have the same ring as Mos Def.
One of the original conscious rappers, Mos Def visited South Africa and ended up in some trouble. Ultimately, it took over five months for him to return to US soil. Not long after his return, the US leadership took a drastic turn.
