Since 2006, Wiz Khalifa has been releasing mixtapes and street albums, building a strong underground buzz, becoming one of hip hop’s most-anticipated stars. The mainstream hip hop world did not learn of Wiz Khalifa until Rick Ross expressed interest in adding him to Maybach Music. At the time, Wiz Khalifa had just released “Black & Yellow.”

The success of the single would land Wiz Khalifa a meeting with Atlantic Records. Immediately, Wiz Khalifa signed with Atlantic Records and prepared his debut album. Still in the shadow of Drake and Nicki Minaj, Wiz Khalifa broke through with “Black & Yellow.” The popular single would gain international fame for the young Pittsburgh rapper.

With an entirely new fanbase, Wiz Khalifa decided to create an album, which catered to everyone. When he released Rolling Papers, during the spring of 2011, the album was released. Plans of creating an album universally-accepted failed when the album was panned by critics and fans. Now, Wiz Khalifa is riding his commercial success, preparing his next album, O.N.I.F.C.

Currently preparing to release both the O.N.I.F.C. album and his Taylor Allerdice mixtape, Wiz Khalifa said he is going back to what made him famous, in the first place. On his upcoming releases, Wiz Khalifa said he is going to make music for the people “who live like us and can relate.” In his career, Wiz Khalifa said he has not been as excited about upcoming projects as he is about these. Wiz Khalifa said he is so confident in the new music, he feels as if he has created a new genre of music.
