Much hype has surrounded the King Richard film. The movie is led by Will Smith, Venus, and Serena Williams. All three have done tons of promo, which led most to believe this was a feature film, but it’s instead being released on HBO Max.
There is a major difference between a feature film and one released on a streaming service. For the actors involved, they are taking a massive pay cut. But, Will Smith has stepped in to do something to give the King Richard actors some extra cash.
Will Smith was paid $40 million to star in King Richard. A decision from Warner Bros. led to the film being released on HBO Max, instead of to theaters. Because of this, the actors involved missed out on a lot of money, so Will went out of pocket to pay those impacted, and they describe it as a “nice bonus.”
