A lot of hype has gone behind Will Smith and his son, Jaden’s, new film After Earth. As real-life father and son, the two have had a lot of on screen chemistry. The two made their debut together in 2007’s The Pursuit of Happyness. Since then, fans have been clamoring for a reunion on screen between the father and the son.

Those who have actually watched After Earth say the phrase “be careful what you wish for” comes to mind. Though the film trailers have been action-packed and shows what life on Earth could be like post-humans, it just is not enough. Perhaps the theme was not enough to carry an entire film.

Commercially, After Earth also floundered in terms for Will Smith that is. On its opening weekend, After Earth grossed $27 million in ticket sales, good enough for number three on the box office. However, these are Will Smith’s lowest numbers since his 1993 film debut and next week’s sales are to be only a fraction of this week’s.
