Pop Smoke was heading towards stardom last year, shortly after having a solid 2019 with the breakout singles “Dior” and “Welcome to The Party.” February 2020 saw the Brooklyn rapper put out his “Meet The Woo 2” mixtape and 12 days later, was shot and killed in his Airbnb in Hollywood Hills, during a botched robbery.
Smoke now has two consecutive posthumous number one albums, after putting out his “Faith” project last week. He is the first artist to ever do this posthumously. Many wonder how much bigger the Brooklyn rapper would be if he were still here today. Recently, The Game and Blueface’s manager, Wack 100, appeared on Adam 22’s podcast to discuss Smoke.
Wack claimed how he tried to get Smoke to leave the Airbnb he was staying at, and go stay at the W Hollywood, instead. Wack spoke with Birdman and Monte Lipman of Republic Records. From that point, Wack recommended that Smoke stay at that hotel.“
“Go check into that W Hollywood,” Wack said. “Stay away from them Airbnbs on this West Coast until you get your weight up, ’til you get your politics right. Go to one of them hotels bro and be safe about it.”
“I told him four days before to get that man out of there and send him to the W,” Wack explained. “I was in Europe and Avery or Monte Lipman (of Republic Records) had called through Birdman and they were kinda asking me stuff. I told him, ‘Get him out of there and send him to the W Hotel.’ I started getting calls from my people that the homegirls was up there and this and that. I’d just advise when y’all on your way up, take small steps.”
Wack found out how many women were hanging out at that property, and he believed that could’ve made Pop a target. Eventually, four suspects raided the house, in a robbery, around 4:30AM. Smoke was gettinf out the shower, while a female friend was held at gunpoint. Smoke attempted to run, but was soon shot, and started getting kicked on. He was also reportedly shot again, as he tried to run. His jewelry was stolen, and one of his iced out Rolexes was sold for only $2,000. The shooter is said to be a 15-year-old boy.
The property that Smoke stayed at at the time was owned by “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star, Teddi Mellencamp, and her husband, Edwin Arroyave. The address of the home was seen on Instagram as well, as Smoke posted a photo of an Amiri bag, with the address visible on it.
