The BET Hip-Hop Awards took place in Miami this weekend at The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater for the second straight year. The broadcast of the show will be aired on October 16 at 8PM ET.
Controversy did take place during the show as Vic Mensa was involved in one of the cyphers that artists participate in annually at the awards. In Mensa’s freestyle, he supposedly dissed the late rapper XXXTentacion according to DJ Scheme. In a series of heated tweets, he said “F*ck Vic Mensa. When y’all hear Vic Mensa’s f*cking freestyle at the BET awards y’all are going to be f*cking disgusted. @VicMensa SUCK MY DI**.”
It was an awkward moment because X had just won the award for Best New Artist and his mother was also present. It’s not clear what issues the two rappers might’ve had in the past but using the Hip-Hop Awards platform is definitely questionable.
