Anytime a person decides to step up and do something for themselves that changes the landscape, they face backlash. For years, Troy Ave had a nice buzz, but he wanted more. When 2013 came, Troy Ave made his intentions of taking the game over clear.

Inspired by 50 Cent and G-Unit, Troy Ave soon had nice momentum, but he immediately faced social media backlash. This backlash came in spite of Troy Ave doing everything himself. Everything, down to his distribution was secured without any major help.

Troy Ave teamed up with EMPIRE Distribution for Major Without A Deal, his sophomore album. The new album has faced a lot of scrutiny, as it only moved 4,300 copies in its first week and thirty physical copies were sold. In response to the social media backlash, Troy Ave took to his Twitter to explain the situation.
