Of course, Jay-Z had Kanye West and Just Blaze making his beats during the peak of his career, but he also turned to Pharrell and Timbaland for beats. During the 1998-1999 period, Jay-Z took over the mainstream. One of his signature anthems was “Big Pimpin,” which featured popular Texas duo, UGK.

Back in 2008, Jay-Z and Timbaland were sued over the “Big Pimpin” instrumental. It was during this period of time when Jay-Z left his Roc-A-Fella Records to form his joint venture with Live Nation, Roc Nation. Serving as both a management company and a record label, the company houses J. Cole, Rihanna, Kanye West, Wale, and many others.

Now, Jay-Z has added another big name to his company. Timbaland has spent the bulk of his career with Interscope Records. After taking a hiatus, Timbaland returned just as Justin Timberlake made his return. With Jay-Z appearing on JT’s “Suit & Tie” single, it was only right for Timbaland to join his Roc Nation company.
