Verzuz has been a huge platform since it debuted last spring. Founded by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, it was made for artists/producers to showcase their greatest hits. We’ve seen some epic battles such as Lil Jon-T-Pain, Ludacris-Nelly, Gucci Mane-Jeezy, Brandy-Monica, Teddy Riley-Babyface, and more. Now, Timb and Beatz just inked a huge deal with Triller regarding Verzuz.
According to Billboard, The Triller Network has now acquired Verzuz in this deal. Everyone has a role on the Triller Verzuz management team as Timb and Beatz are also shareholders of Triller. In addition to this, the 43 artists who participated in Verzuz will own equity stakes.
“This is a momentous occasion not only for Verzuz and Triller but the music business as a whole,” said Timbaland and Beatz in a statement. “By putting Verzuz in the Triller Network ecosystem and expanding the Verzuz brand to be side by side with the powerful Triller app, we will be able to continue to grow and evolve the music business as a whole, as we have been doing.”
At the end of February, the most recent Verzuz was held as D’Angelo appeared in it along with “friends.” Verzuz is currently in season 2, which kicked off back on November 19 as that featured the epic matchup between Jeezy and Gucci Mane.
“There is no more disruptive and innovative brand in music today than Verzuz,” said Bobby Sarnevesht, executive chairman and co-owner of Triller. “Both Triller and Verzuz share the ‘artist first, music first’ vision. We view this acquisition as more of a partnership than an acquisition, as Swizz, Timbaland and the other 43 artists who are all becoming shareholders and partners in Triller Verzuz from this day forward become our voice.”
