TikTok launches music distribution platform, SoundOn, to assist artists in uploading their music to TikTok, and earning most of their royalties

TikTok launches SoundOn music distribution platform

There have been debates for a while now, whether artists are truly earning enough percentages from their streams, on platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, and others. It even resulted in Kanye West deciding to not put his “Donda 2” album on any of those, last month. However, many did criticize Ye for limiting himself, regarding the fan experience.

Now, TikTok has launched their SoundOn music distribution platform, in order to let artists upload their music there, and earn revenue. For the first year, artists will earn 100% of the revenue that they’ll make on SoundOn, and then, it will go to 90%. Artists can also speak with SoundOn’s A&R department, to discuss how to better reach audiences.

In addition to the SoundOn platform, it will also assist artists in getting their music on streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify.

“New artists and musical creators are a vibrant community within TikTok and SoundOn is designed to support them as they take the first steps in their career,” said TikTok’s Head of Music, Ole Obermann. “Our SoundOn teams will guide creators on their journey to the big stage and bring the expertise and power of TikTok to life for the artist. We’re incredibly excited about how this will surface and propel new talent and how SoundOn will contribute to an increasingly diverse and growing global music industry.”

TikTok has definitely been an effective platform, in helping plenty of artists get more hit records. Many mans are often seen dancing to these records on that app, and SoundOn can now definitely take that exposure to the next level.
