The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” single goes diamond

The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” goes diamond

The Weeknd has had plenty of major singles, over the past decade. In November 2019, he put out arguably his biggest one to date, in “Blinding Lights.” That went on to hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and dominated in 2020. It’s momentum also carried over into early 2021, where The Weeknd performed this smash hit, at the Super Bowl in Tampa.

Now, Blinding Lights has reached another epic milestone. According to Chart Data, it is now certified diamond in the US. This is after selling 10 million units. Weeknd also becomes the first Canadian artist to earn three  RIAA Diamond singles as a lead artist in the US. Blinding Lights is also the biggest hit on the Hot 100 chart, in this century.

Blinding Lights went on to appear on Weeknd’s fourth studio album, “After Hours.” That went on to be his third consecutive number one album. It was rumored that label executives did not want him to put After Hours out yet, due to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Weeknd still won big anyway.

This summer, Weeknd is also venturing on his “After Hours Til Dawn Tour.” This comes after he put out his “Dawn FM” album this past January, and going through multiple tour delays, since 2020.
