The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” Sets Record as Longest-Charting Song, in Billboard Hot 100 History

The Weeknd continues to be one of the biggest artists in the world. Two weeks ago, he released his first solo single of 2021 as well, with “Take My Breath.” Today, that debuted at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Toronto native also made history today as well, with his 2019 “Blinding Lights” single. According to Chart Data, it has broken the all-time record for being the longest-charting song in Hot 100 history. This was set at 88 weeks.

Blinding Lights was initially released in November 2019, and went on to debut at the top of the Hot 100. It went on to appear on The Weeknd’s fourth studio album, “After Hours,” in March 2020. That project was also a number one debut on the Billboard 200 chart.

Blinding Lights is well on its way to making more history this year as well. It is currently 9x platinum, and could definitely hit a diamond certification before 2021 is up.
