Taylor Swift hit with lawsuit for stealing hook from 3LW single, “Playas Gon Play,” on “Shake It Off,” her 2014 single

If the lyrics to Taylor Swift’s 2014 hit single, “Shake It Off,” seemed a little familiar, it’s because they were. The hook of her single appeared to borrow from 3LW. Fun fact, before The Cheetah Girls, most of the girls in the group were actually in 3LW, another girl group.

Naturi Naughton, best-known as Tasha from “Power,” was the lead singer in this group. Following their 2001 debut single, 3LW soon disbanded. In 2006, they attempted a comeback, but did not have much luck.

Now, 3LW is back in the headlines, and it has nothing to do with Naturi and Adrienne Bailon on “The Real.” Instead, the writers of the song, Sean Hall and Nathan Butler, are taking action. They are suing Swift for “borrowing” 20% of the song and sources close to Taylor say her team has written the claims off as “ridiculous.”
