Verzuz has become a huge platform over the past year for some of the greatest artists/producers of all-time to showcase their greatest hits against each other. Recently, Triller purchased the platform as they will stream these battles from now on in addition to Verzuz’ Instagram feed and Apple Music.
Verzuz recently revealed upcoming battles such as The Isley Brothers vs Earth, Wind, and Fire, Method Man vs Redman, and SWV vs Xscape. Now, Swizz Beatz and Timbalad, the founders of Verzuz, recently appeared on The Breakfast Club. They revealed that they almost had Dr. Dre set to appear on Verzuz in 2020.
Swizz ended up explaining how that Dre backed out after what he saw with the sound and technical difficulties between Babyface and Teddy Riley last April.
“When Dr. Dre wasn’t feeling the sound from Teddy Riley and Babyface, that hurt our heart,” said Swizz If you go back, Dre was at the Teddy Riley one, he came at the end. He was supposed to announce that he was going to do Verzuz that night!”
Swizz added that Dre wasn’t going to announce who he’d go against on Verzuz, though. Dre also added that he couldn’t be part of something that ended up going down like that due to his name being attached to that platform.
“I don’t think he was going to announce who he was battling. He was going to announce ‘I’m ready, I’m coming.’ Then he got on the phone like ‘man, I can’t be a part of nothing that sound like that. My legacy is quality.’ I was like ‘we just lost Dre over the sound? That one felt pretty crazy. But since then, the energy has been pretty good.”
Dre has been the discussion on social media for a while now of possibly appearing on Verzuz. Hopefully, he changes his mind soon. Having artists in the same room has definitely been able to correct the technical difficulties that are commonly seen on the Verzuz Instagram Live streams.
