Three years ago, Lee Daniels expanded his portfolio, following the success of “Empire.” The second show was called “STAR,” which had such names as Queen Latifah and Tyrese headlining. But, the stars of the show were Jude DeMorest, Ryan Destiny, and Brittany O’Grady.

“STAR” was a different kind of series, also including Quincy, that pushed the envelope. As the show expanded, Brandy and Patti LaBelle also joined the cast. The show has gotten rave reviews, through its entire run, but it wasn’t enough.

While “Empire” was the Lee Daniels show in turmoil, “Star” was the one in trouble. This afternoon, reports have surfaced that “Star” has ended its run. After three seasons, where “Star” was given “Empire’s” time slot, it has been cancelled.
