Recently, Soulja Boy found himself all over the gossip headlines, a place where he has become a mainstay. Since 2010, Soulja Boy was out of the spotlight, with the exception of mixtape releases. When VH1 cast him for “Love & Hip Hop Hollywood,” he came back in a major way.
Soulja Boy’s relationship with Nia Riley propelled his initial story on the show. Many pointed out the irony of her father, Teddy Riley, sitting down with Soulja Boy. The two have made drastically different music, both finding varying success.
But, Soulja Boy first caused quite the stir when he shared a pay stub that reveals he gets paid $50,000 an episode for “Love & Hip Hop Hollywood.” Days later, Soulja Boy tweeted that he would be leaving the show, due to it being “too ratchet” and “damaging his brand,” to which Mona Scott-Young questioned how a person would respond to being fired. The reunion show for season three recently taped and Soulja Boy was not present.
