It been a sad time for Christian rapper TobyMac as he’s been dealing with the death of his oldest son. Mac’s son, 21-year-old Truett Foster McKeehan, passed away back in October 2019. He was an unfortunate victim of an accidental drug overdose, dying from and “acute combined drug intoxication.” His autopsy report revealed that fentanyl and amphetamine. were found in his system.
First responders answered a 911 call at around 11am on October 23, 2019. It was a call stating someone had gone into cardiac arrest at TobyMac’s Nashville home. A spokesperson for the Nashville Fire Department later confirmed that Truett was pronounced dead.
Truett was an emerging rapper himself. At the time, he had just done his first show. TobyMac could be more proud. So it was a definite blow to see his son suddenly pass away. TobyMac has written a song in memory of his son. Entitled ’21 Years’, it was his way of paying tribute to the life and memory of Truett.
“’21 years’ is a song I wrote about the recent passing of my firstborn son, Truett Foster McKeehan. I loved him with all my heart,” TobyMac shared on Instagram. “Until something in life hits you this hard, you never know how you will handle it. I am thankful that I have been surrounded by love, starting with God’s and extending to community near and far that have walked with us and carried us everyday.”
