Many remember Silento for his 2015 breakout hit single “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” back in 2015. It was an instant dance hit, especially with the kids. It peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and is 6x platinum in the US. Things went crashing down for the Atlanta native last year though, as he was arrested and charged with shooting and killing his cousin, back in January, in Atlanta.
Today, Silento had a bond hearing in DeKalb County and in the end, did not receive any form of amount to be freed, according to TMZ. This was reportedly due to the artist being viewed as a danger. The judge cited Silento’s mental health issues and him having a frequent history of not taking his medication. Silento originally requested $25k bond and assured that he wouldn’t be a flight risk.
A prosecutor also told the judge that Silento has been in denial of these mental health issues. He supposedly even ran away from a facility in California before, and his actions could put local communities in danger. This is at the point to where even his grandparents were in favor of Silento being denied bond.
For Silento’s defense, his team tried to bring up the good things he’s done in the past. These include being on the Governor’s Blue Ribbon panel, which stressed to kids the importance of not using drugs and alcohol. They also added that Silento has battled a bipolar disorder.
