Since Jay-Z, New York rappers have had to go to other regions to get signed and then begin releasing albums. The next major star following Jay-Z came in the form of 50 Cent, seven years later. Through the mixtapes, 50 Cent became the underground king in New York City, but no major labels would touch him. However, Eminem and Dr. Dre signed him and 50 Cent ended up moving from New York to Los Angeles, immediately gaining international fame.

Due to 50 Cent’s past affiliation with Aftermath Entertainment, he has a strong fan base in the overall Los Angeles area. 50 Cent, despite how many currently feel about him, inspired a generation of young rappers. Watching him go through what he went through led to more people wanting to do the things he did in the rap game. Many current West Coast stars were heavily influenced by 50 Cent.

ScHoolboy Q is among the number of rappers who were inspired by 50 Cent. VIBE caught up with the Los Angeles rapper and he discussed the impact 50 Cent has had on both his life and his career.
