Kendrick Lamar called himself the king of New York and, in current time, it is safe to say that New York has no king. But, when bringing up an all-time discussion, there are rappers who had executives all inspired by Russell Simmons. No, Rush definitely was not the first hip hop executive and he is not the last, but he opened doors.
Russell Simmons created Def Jam and then used the label to unleash LL Cool J onto the hip hop world. In the years since then, several hustlers have put together labels, unleashed stars, and made millions. Among them is Top Dawg and Kendrick Lamar, they can’t act like they weren’t inspired by Russell Simmons.
Recently, Russell Simmons went down to Atlanta and he discussed Kendrick Lamar and his choice of words. During his stay in Atlanta, Russell Simmons gave a moment of his time to V103 and the discussed. As someone who has helped mold quite a few kings of New York, Russell Simmons’ take is interesting.
