Roddy Ricch had a breakout 2019 for himself as he was buzzing with singles such as “Big Stepper” and “Start Wit Me” feat. Gunna. His debut studio album ‘Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial‘ was released in December and the biggest record from the project wasn’t even one of the lead singles. It ended up being “The Box” which was arguably the hottest song of the year.

The Box ended up being the No. 1 song in the country and has since been certified platinum by the RIAA in the United States. Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial is also platinum. The Compton native was acknowledged for his accomplishments tonight at the virtual BET Awards as well as he took home multiple awards.

These awards are for Best New Artist and Album of The Year, according to Chart Data. Other artists nominated for Best New Artist were DaniLeigh, Lil Nas X, Summer Walker, YBN Cordae, and the late Pop Smoke. Candidates in the Album of the Year category included Lizzo’s ‘Cuz I Luv You,’ ‘Fever‘ by Megan Thee Stallion (which is an EP), ‘Homecoming: The Live Album’ by Beyoncé, ‘I Used to Know Her’ by H.E.R.,’ and ‘Kirk‘ by DaBaby. Ricch also performed with DaBaby tonight for their “Rockstar” Black Lives Matter remix. The original version became the No. 1 song in the country this week as well.
