Being the biggest rap star in the game wasn’t good enough for Jay-Z, neither was also being the head of the hottest hip hop label. Taking over music from several different angles, Jay-Z and Damon Dash figured clothing was their next venture. This is what led to the formation of Rocawear.
In 2004, Jay-Z ended his business affiliation with Damon Dash and he kept all of the business interests of Roc-A-Fella. One by one, Jay-Z sold off each company, but remained on as an executive for the companies. At one point, Jay-Z’s net worth was well over $500 million due to this.
Fortunately for Jay-Z he no longer owns Rocawear because the clothing company continues to lose money. Now, Rocawear has gone through another major loss in addition to dwindling sales. Their Hood Love t-shirt has earned them a lawsuit from a t-shirt line named Hood Love, which has been in business since 2006.
