It’s been three years now since former NFL Quarterback Colin Kaepernick was in the league as he last played for the San Francisco 49ers. He made headlines in 2016 after he knelt during NFL preseason games in the middle of the national anthem to protest racism and police brutality in this country. The league has since blackballed him and it’s been a huge injustice, especially considering the fact that he’s better than every backup QB and some starters.
Many artists don’t want anything to do with the NFL after their treatment of Kaepernick and Rihanna is one of them. In a recent interview with Vogue, she revealed that she didn’t want to perform at the Super Bowl last year to support Kaepernick. She also felt that she’d be selling out if she did perform.
“I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”
