When it comes to making money, Rihanna learned from the best. In 2005, Jay-Z signed her to Def Jam, and dropped her debut album, that summer. The year of 2005 saw Teairra Mari also drop, along with such names as Brooke Valentine, and Amerie was on the comeback run.
Most of them seemed more likely than Rihanna being the one with staying power. But, when 2006 came, only Rihanna returned with another album. By 2007, Rihanna was the only game in town, consistently topping Billboard.
Rihanna followed the Jay-Z template, dropping an album every year from 2005 through 2012, with 2008 serving a reissue with another chart-topper for Billboard. In 2016, Rihanna moved into business, much like her mentor, and now she can boast, just like him. With Jay being hip hop’s first billionaire, Rihanna is the world’s richest female musician, now worth $600 million.
