Even when his name is not the center of attention, he is the center of attention. Regardless of how things ended for Rick Ross in 2011, he was still going to be on top of the game. After proving himself a star, outside of his Miami affiliates, in 2010, Rick Ross went into 2011 preparing to truly become the “boss.” Rick Ross planned to develop his Maybach Music roster and close the year with his God Forgives, I Don’t album.

Throughout 2011, things went according to the plan, as the Maybach Music album was a success. Following the Maybach Music album, the focus was on Wale, who also made MTV’s list of the “Hottest MCs in the Game.” The year was to close with Rick Ross releasing his album, but two seizures in mid-October stopped this from happening. After recovering from the seizures, Rick Ross was ready to keep moving, but the label forced him to stop.

During the final days of 2011, Rick Ross promised to make things up to the fans with the release of his Rich Forever mixtape. Released in the first week of 2012, Rich Forever has had a bigger impact on the game than most albums released. The “Stay Schemin'” single, while receiving a boost from having Drake on the song, dissing Common and Common’s response, and French Montana’s verse, has been the most-popular hip hop single of 2012. Rick Ross has not wasted any time, as he has released several music videos for the other singles released from the Rich Forever mixtape.

The success of Rick Ross did not go unnoticed by MTV, who decided to name him their hottest MC in the game. Wale and Meek Mill, artists signed to Ross’ Maybach Music label, also made the list. MTV critics noted it was hard to notice Rick Ross did not release an album because he was featured on all the hottest records of 2011. During the summer of 2011, Lil Wayne sampled Rick Ross’ “I’m Not a Star” for his “John” single, which became one of the biggest hits of the summer.
