A lot of people forget that Richard Jefferson spent his first two seasons playing in the NBA Finals. When he was with the New Jersey Nets, he was Jason Kidd’s number two guy in those Finals run. In the 2002 and 2003 Finals, the Nets lost to the Lakers and Spurs.
Richard Jefferson spent the first eight years of her career with the Nets and then became a journeyman. He played for the Spurs, the Warriors, the Bucks, and later landed in Cleveland. By that time, seeing how dominant the Warriors became, no one believed they’d win a title.
When it actually happened, after they stunned the Warriors in Game 7, during his post-game interview, Richard Jefferson said he retired. It was all impulse, but that was fifteen years of his life. LeBron convinced him to come back for one year, but the Cavs got manhandled in the Finals, and now RJ says he’s “re-retiring,” but he’s probably just joking.
