R. Kelly’s sex trafficking trial began a few days ago, as tons of evidence rolled into the courtroom. That led many to believe that the disgraced R&B legend was done for. More information about Kelly’s past is leaking, including his former relationship with another R&B legend, in Aaliyah.
Kelly’s former tour manger, Demetrius Smith, recently testified, and revealed what Kelly supposedly told him back in the day. Kelly was said to have confessed to him that he believed that he’d gotten Aaliyah pregnant, when she was a minor, according to Billboard. This all went down before one of Kelly’s concerts, and how Aaliyah supposedly felt she was pregnant, as well.
Kelly added that he believed that Aaliyah was in “trouble.” He also didn’t want smith to call Barry Hankerson about this possible situation, who is Aaliyah’s uncle and manager. Smith also noted that he couldn’t recall which city they were in, when Kelly made this revelation.
At the time, Kelly wanted Smith to book an overnight flight, so they could leave, after the show. Kelly was supposedly crying on the way to the airport, and this was during the time that he ended up bribing clerk from the Illinois Department of Human Services with $500, in order to get the marriage license, to be with Aaliyah.
Aaliyah was 15-years-old at the time, while Kelly was 27. Smith added that he helped Kelly in this situation, in order to avoid Kelly cutting him off. On August 23, Smith will also be in court again, to discuss Kelly’s RICO case.
A few days ago, Aaliyah’s 1996 sophomore album, “One In A Million,” was also finally made available on streaming outlets. More of her albums will be out in the coming months as well.
