R. Kelly was recently denied a request to be released from Chicago MCC, the jail that he’s currently locked up at. He cited concerns about the coronavirus spreading there and how he isn’t able to meet with his lawyers in-person because of it. Now, he still isn’t giving up on getting out.
According to TMZ, Kelly filed an emergency motion for this release as they cited that six inmates caught the virus in addition to seven staff members. He believes at this rate, he will “absolute probability” be tested positive. A judge also denied his request due to Kelly not being able to prove that he’s a flight risk.
In response to the judge’s flight risk claim, Kelly says if he tried to run, everyone in Chicago would recognize him along with everywhere else in America. He also added that he’s afraid to fly, can’t book any flights, and doesn’t even have a passport to use. Kelly also added that if he was granted a release from jail, he’d wear a GPS monitor so authorities would know that he’s home. The only people he would meet with are his attorneys.
As of now, a judge hasn’t ruled on this motion. It’ll be interesting to see if these latest cases at Chicago MCC are enough for Kelly to finally be granted this release. YNW Melly was denied his request to get out of a Florida jail and he actually has the virus. Tekashi 6ix9ine was able to though and he doesn’t have it. Kelly is incarcerated for sex crimes involving underage girls in three different states.(New York, Illinois, and Minnesota) Kelly’s Chicago trial will be in September. If Kelly gets out now, he planned to live with his girlfriend, Joycelyn Savage, while serving house arrest.
