In 2005, 50 Cent began his transition from being another popular rapper to truly becoming a mogul. The legendary group, Mobb Deep, signed to G-Unit in the summer of 2005. Before the end of the year, they were already recording music with 50 Cent, most notably on the “Outta Control” remix.
Mobb Deep started 2006 on a high note for G-Unit, releasing their Blood Money album, but the album was considered a disappointment. Their low sales was the beginning of a new trend for G-Unit. Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, and 50 Cent all experienced disappointing sales over the next year. Soon, the breakup rumors began.
By 2009, G-Unit’s overall relationship with Interscope Records soured and the label forced 50 Cent to drop Mobb Deep. With Prodigy in prison, Havoc was the lone representative. Prodigy returned last summer and has returned to his role as spokesperson for the duo, battling breakup rumors earlier this year. During his recent conversation with Vlad TV, Prodigy discussed his relationship with 50 Cent, which has remained strong despite being dropped by him. He also reflected on his time at G-Unit Records and spoke on how he felt about Young Buck, a fan of his music, but not too fond of him, overall.
